Old Map of Atlantic Islands, 1851 by Tallis & Rapkin – Bermuda, Azores, Canaries, Tenerife, Madeira, Cape Verde
Engraved by John Rapkin and published by J. Tallis & Co in 1851, this is one of the finest and most detailed historic maps of the Atlantic Islands – the Canary Islands, Azores, Madeira, Bermuda and Cape Verde (now Cabo Verde).
This map looks great at all sizes: 12×16 inches (31x41cm), 18×24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24×36 inches (61×91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 52×70 inches (132x178cm). Please get in touch if you’re looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 18×24 inch (45x60cm) version of this map.
The fifth listing image shows an example of my map personalisation service.
Dotted around the map are beautiful, detailed engravings of notable landmarks and vistas, such as a scene from Faial Island in the Azores, the beach of Funchal in Madeira, Tenerife with Mount Teide rising out of the clouds, and ‘the chapel in the rock’ on Cape Verde.
Many of the towns, villages and cities of the islands can be found on this map – take a closer look at the listing images and see if you can spot your hometown or favourite holiday location! Contact me if you want to find out if a certain place is on the map or not.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father’s Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from one of these Atlantic Islands, or perhaps someone who has holidayed in the Canary Islands extensively!
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you’d like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
