Old map of Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Galway in 1618 by Georg Braun – Ancient Eire City Charts
Published in 1618 by Georg Braun and Frans Hogenberg, this is one of the first printed maps of the Irish cities of Dublin, Limerick, Cork and Galway. If Shakespeare had visited Ireland back then, this is what these cities would’ve looked like. This map was first published in Civitates Orbis Terrarum – the Cities of the World – which was a cartographical masterpiece featuring 546 maps.
You might be able to spot 1 or 2 landmarks that are still around today – but after 450 years, most buildings have been rebuilt. Take a look at the detailed listing images and see if you can spot your favourite landmark or street!
This would make a wonderful birthday, work leaving, housewarming, Christmas or Father’s Day gift for someone from Ireland or who has one of these cities in their heart.
This map looks great at all sizes from 12×16 inches (30x40cm), to 16×20 inches (40x50cm) and 24×36 inches (60x90cm). But it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 70 inches (180cm) wide. Please get in touch if you’re looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24×18 inch (60x45cm) version of this map.
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you’d like a different frame, or to frame one of the larger maps. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames – it’s less reflective than glass and better for transport.
