Old Map of France, 1851 by Tallis & Rapkin – Paris, Calais, Toulouse, Nice, Bordeaux, Departments & Counties
Engraved by John Rapkin and published by J. Tallis & Co in 1851, this is one of the finest and most detailed historic maps of France. This map was originally handcoloured more than 150 years ago and has been tactfully restored by The Unique Maps Co.
Beautifully detailed illustrations adorn the edges of this map, including views of Bridge Toulouse, the Garden at the Palais Royal in Paris, and Calais harbour.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12×16 inches (31x41cm), 18×24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24×36 inches (61×91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 70 inches (180cm). Please get in touch if you’re looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 20×16 inch (50x40cm) version of this map.

If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing map of France by John Speed in 1627.
The locations on this map include the French regions of Brittany (Britany), Burgundy, Provence Alpes, Auvergne and Normandy. Cities such as Paris, Nantes, Nice, Marseille, Bordeaux, Lille and Calais are also visible on this map.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father’s Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone from France or has France close to their heart.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you’d like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
