Tournée du Chat Noir by Théophile Steinlen, 1896
Tournée du Chat Noir, originally published in 1896, is one of the most iconic pieces by the Swiss artist Théophile Steinlen. This piece is not only a remarkable example of art nouveau but also an evocative poster that exudes the vibrant culture of late 19th-century bohemian Paris.
And now, for the first time in over a century, you can acquire a unique, personalised art print of Tournée du Chat Noir. Your print will be meticulously handcrafted at The Unique Maps Co. workshop and then produced on luxuriously thick archival matte paper, ensuring it remains unfaded and pristine for decades to come.
Théophile Steinlen, an accomplished artist, was renowned for his posters, paintings, and sculptures. He was a central figure in the Montmartre circle, contributing extensively to the art culture of the era. His work graced the pages of “Le Chat Noir,” a famed literary and artistic journal, further cementing his status among other influential artists of the time.
Tournée du Chat Noir stands out for its fantastic use of bold, contrasting colors and its striking stylization. The deep black cat, with its piercing eyes and pronounced outline, captures immediate attention while the bright yellow backdrop juxtaposes beautifully, making it a vivid centerpiece for any room. Steinlen’s linear design and typography add a nostalgic charm that harks back to the lively cabaret nights of old Paris.
Decorating your wall with this art print of Tournée du Chat Noir will not only impart a touch of historical flair but also serve as an exquisite conversation piece. This art print is a perfect gift for birthdays, Christmas, Father’s Day, housewarming events, or work-leaving dos for anyone with a refined taste in art, a love for cats, or an appreciation of historical posters.
