Uria Brunnichi by John James Audubon, 1827
Uria Brunnichi, exquisitely illustrated by John James Audubon in 1827, marks a significant presence in Audubon’s renowned collection, Birds of America. This illustration captures the distinctive features of the Brunnich’s Guillemot, a bird often found in the frigid, ice-laden bays of the northern Atlantic.
Now, for the first time in nearly two centuries, The Unique Maps Co. offers you the opportunity to own a high-quality, personalized fine art print of this remarkable piece. Each print is meticulously crafted on premium archival matte paper, ensuring vibrant colors and lasting beauty for decades.
John James Audubon was a pioneering ornithologist and artist of the 19th century whose ambitious work, The Birds of America, presented 435 life-sized, hand-colored prints of North American bird species. His ability to capture the essence and intricate details of birds in their natural settings continues to be celebrated in nature and art circles worldwide.
The Uria Brunnichi print is notable not only for its representation of the bird’s physical features but also for the narrative it weaves of Audubon’s adventures and discoveries. Created from a specimen sent to Audubon from the icy waters of Pasmaquody Bay, this illustration portrays the greyish-black and white plumage of the bird with a keen eye for detail. Audubon’s accounts bring life to the challenges and joys of observing these creatures in their natural habitats.
The artwork’s use of color brings an added layer of fascination — the bluish-green shades adorned with black or dark umber speckles add depth and elegance to the illustration. Owning this print means not just having a beautiful piece of art, but also a historical glimpse into Audubon’s world of ornithological discovery.
This fine art print makes an exceptional gift for birthdays, Christmas, Father’s Day, or any occasion worthy of commemorating a passion for natural history and art. It appeals not only to bird enthusiasts but also to those with an appreciation for timeless artistry and the wonders of the natural world.
