World War 2 Nazi Vichy France Propaganda Poster Map – Winston Churchill as a Tentacled Beast
This old anti-British propaganda poster published by Vichy France shows Winston Churchill as some sort of hydra or octopus with his tentacles wrapped around parts of Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
The regions marked on the map are politically sensitive areas – mostly regions where many French had died at the hands of the Brits during World War 2.
The phrase across the top and bottom of the map reads, “Confiance … ses Amputations se Poursuivent Methodiquement”, which roughly translates as: Rest reassured, the amputations of his tentacles are proceeding methodically.
This is an extremely striking poster map. There’s really nothing else like it.
This map looks great at all sizes: 12×18 inches (30x45cm), 16×20 inches (40x50cm) and 18×24 inches (45x60cm), but it looks even better when printed large. I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 180 inches (450cm) tall. Please get in touch if you’re looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24×36 inch (60x90cm) version of this map.
This would make a wonderful birthday, work leaving, housewarming, Christmas or Father’s Day gift for someone interested in World War 2 propaganda, or perhaps an unusual present for someone from Africa…
You can order the map itself, or you can order a framed version. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that really makes our maps pop out when on a wall. Please get in touch if you’d like a different frame. We use super-clear acrylic (perspex/acrylite) in our frames – it’s less reflective than glass and better for transport.
