World War 2 World Map, 1939 – Old Historical Events – Hitler Invading Poland, Allies Declaring WW2, Pope Dying
This is one of the most powerful and interesting old maps that I’ve ever seen, originally published by Acme Newspictures in 1939 – the year that Germany invaded Poland and World War 2 began.
A lot of interesting things happened in 1939, including the end of the Spanish Civil War and… the British Airways plane “Cavalier” crashed into the Atlantic Ocean en route to Bermuda… among other things!
This map looks great at all sizes: 12×16 inches (31x41cm), 18×24 inches (45.5x61cm) and 24×36 inches (61×91.5cm), but it looks even better when printed large.
Please note: The labels on the world map in the middle are very, very small unless you buy a large map. I recommend 24×36 inches if you wish to be able to read everything clearly. The text around the outside of the map is legible on the smallest map size.
I can create beautiful, large prints of this map up to 130 inches (330cm). Please get in touch if you’re looking for larger, customised or different framing options.
The model in the listing images is holding the 24×18 inch (61×45.5cm) version of this map.
If you’re looking for something slightly different, another option would be this amazing world map during WW2 by Stanley Turner.
Key historical events shown around the edge of this map include the death of Pope Pius XI and the crowning of the new Pope who was named Pius XII.
However, most of the events shown are those that precipitated World War 2, including Hitler’s invasion of Czecho-Slovakia and Poland, and the Allied actions that occurred soon after.
Key figures such as King George VI, Queen Elizabeth, President Roosevelt, Hitler, Stalin, Prime Minister Chamberlain and Premier Daladier of France are also on the map.
This would make a wonderful birthday, Christmas, Father’s Day, work leaving or housewarming gift for someone who has a keen interest in history or someone who is looking for a slightly different world map.
This map is available as a giclée print on acid free archival matte paper, or you can buy it framed. The frame is a nice, simple black frame that suits most aesthetics. Please get in touch if you’d like a different frame colour or material. My frames are glazed with super-clear museum-grade acrylic (perspex/acrylite), which is significantly less reflective than glass, safer, and will always arrive in perfect condition.
